Dr Mariana Atkins

Dr. Mariana Atkins is a Research Associate Professor at the Centre for Social Impact UWA. She is currently working on a DSS Try Test and Learn process and impact evaluation of the Mentoring2Work program. With a background in geography and planning, her previous research at UWA focused on the geography of ageing and the challenges of ageing-in-place within sprawling, low-density, car-dependent cities. Employing quantitative and qualitative research methods she explored demographic trends and examined how population ageing is being addressed through policy and planning.

Mariana has extensive research and planning experience in developed and developing countries and has worked in a number of sectors including town and transport planning, arts management and various not-for-profit organisations. She holds a PhD. in Geography and Planning from UWA, a Master’s degree in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from University College London. Mariana is a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society.
