This two semester program, including 12 workshops, offers the opportunity for starting or re-starting researchers to develop their skills and understanding in a number of areas that are fundamental to a successful research career, including:
- Handling a first grant application: choice of agency, ECR grant requirements, clarification of processes, as well as application writing tips and strategies
- Ethics and the responsible conduct of research
- Publications: strategically choosing where to publish, academic article structure, understanding publication metrics
- Managing your profile, your networks and your collaborations
- Strategies for time and project management
- Work/life integration for researchers
The program does not delve into discipline-specific research practices, design or methodology development. These are assumed to have been developed in the appropriate academic context. Each participant of the program is assigned a mentor with whose advice one or several projects are carried out during the year.
Suitable for: Researchers starting or re-starting a research career who are members of staff at UNSW. You need either to have completed a PhD in the last five years, or:
- Have recently moved from industry to a university context
- Have recently returned to university research after a career break
- Be in the process of launching the research-active component of your academic career
- Work in a field in which PhDs are less frequent
The program will be launched on Friday 9 & Friday 16 March and will be completed in November. All sessions will be on Fridays from 11.00am - 2.30pm. Your Head of School will need to sign your application form to state that you will be relieved from commitments on Fridays for the duration of the program.
