All researchers intending on submitting an application in this round should initiate an application in RGMS as soon as practical now that the system is open. This enables the RSO and GMO to track your progress in the round and ensure that you have all the strategic (RSO), eligibility and compliance (GMO) support you need.

Commencing your NHMRC Project Grant Application

STEP 1: Review the important deadlines as per above

STEP 2: Ensure you have a valid login for RGMS (register for new account if required)

STEP 3: Review the Guidelines and Documentation provided by the GMO and NHMRC (see below)

STEP 4: Get Support and/or Attend Training (see below)

STEP 5: Start your application

When you do commence your application, be sure to:

  • click ‘new’ and select the initiative Project not Project Grant
  • select ‘University of New South Wales’ as the Administering Institution
  • say ‘yes’ to RAO Edit Access (see below for details)

RAO Edit Access

The lead investigator (CIA) is responsible for creating, requesting snapshots and submitting an application, including certification. Other members of the research team can only view-access the application and latest snapshots, but cannot edit it. This cannot be changed.

Research Administration Officers (RAOs) can only view-accessthe application and latest snapshots, but cannot edit it unless you grant RAO Edit Access to your application. It is strongly recommended that you grant edit access to the GMO so that we can request new snapshots as required and make minor adjustments to your application where required. The GMO will not undertake any significant changes to your application without your consent.

To grant access to the RAOs, you must do so at the time you commence your application as you will not be able to do so afterwards:

Investigator Endorsement

UNSW requires the endorsement of all researchers prior to submitting your grant to the NHMRC.  This is an absolute requirement.

Previously, all members of the research team were required to login to RGMS and certify their involvement in the application through the RGMS Certification process. This requirement has now been removed and only the CIA will undertake the certification process via RGMS with other CIs endorsing the application via email. Copies of these emails must be forwarded to and retained by the GMO. It is the requirement of CIA to ensure all members of their research team certify their involvement in the application by obtaining emails from all members by the time of application submission.

CIA is required to collate email responses from all other CIs involved in the proposal and submit them to the GMO in the one email with all sign-offs attached.

The NHMRC reserves the right to seek evidence from the Administering Organisation to support the certification of Proposals. UNSW is also subject to external audit. We therefore treat the submission of all signoffs as a mandatory requirement for submission.

Please use the Investigator Endorsement Email Template to send to your other CIs to obtain their sign-off.

In the meantime you can direct all queries about the scheme to mygrants [dot] gmo [at] unsw [dot] edu [dot] au. All queries will be responded to by our dedicated Project Grants adviser on a daily basis.
