Dr Yonezawa has completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof Akira Furusawa at the University of Tokyo, Japan in 2007. He was then employed as a research associate at the University of Tokyo. In April 2009, he was promoted to a lecturer at the University of Tokyo, and continued the position until September 2013. Since September 2013 to present, he has been appointed as a senior lecturer in School of Engineering and IT at the University of New South Wales Canberra. He has also joined ARC Centre of Excellence Quantum Computation and Communication Technology from 2015 as a chief investigator.

Dr Yonezawa has been working on experimental quantum optics, quantum information and quantum control. His works include generation of non-classical quantum states of light (e.g., squeezed states), continuous variable quantum teleportation, adaptive optical phase estimation, measurement-based quantum computation, coherent-control quantum computation, and quantum tomography.

He has been awarded; The Young Scientists’ Prize, the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan in 2014; Incentive award, The Laser Society of Japan in 2009.
