Dr Yansong Shen

Dr Yansong Shen

Dr Yansong Shen is a Senior Lecturer in School of Chemical Engineering, University of New South Wales, Australia. He obtained BEng and MEng degrees at Northeastern University and PhD degree at UNSW. His research group is working on process modelling and optimisation (ProMoO), with applications to a range of complex processes and reactors especially in resource/energy industries, for example, process metallurgy, solid fuel preparation/utilization, and renewable energy processes e.g. solar cell/biomass/hydrogen/battery. His research interests range from understanding fundamentals to optimising & developing new, cleaner and more efficient technologies, supported by advanced numerical and experimental approaches. His research contributions are reflected by strong track record in terms of publication, research grant and synergistic activities. -He published over 40 journal papers in Web of Science (H-Index: 15 as of 2015) in the field of process engineering. Career total of over 70 peer-reviewed papers have been published in book chapters, journals, and conference proceedings. -He secures 5 ARC grants to date as lead CI or co-CI, for example, LP150100112 (lead CI, A$1.1M). Long-term industry engagements have been established with Australian/overseas industries, including Baosteel, Rio Tinto, Bluescope Steel, Coal Energy Australia, Guodian etc, as evidenced by joint ARC grants and industry projects e.g. BA14026 and BA13051 with Baosteel. -He received several research-related competitive awards and ARC fellowship, for example, ARC APDI Fellowship and ATSE Emerging Future Leaders in Low Emission Coal Technology Fellowship. He is member of several professional associations/societies, for example, Chartered IChemE, TMS, AIST, AIE memberships. -He is also active in synergistic activities, for example, Manager of Australia-China Joint Centre on Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials, 2013-2015; Guest editor of a special issue in Steel Research International in 2011; Organiser/contacts of several international conferences/symposiums/meetings. Research interests *Process modelling and design *Reacting flow in complex reactors *Process metallurgy *Coal preparation and utilization *Combustion of solid fuel (blends): e.g. biomass, plastic, coal *Renewable energy generation/storage processes: e.g. photovoltaics solar cells, biomass, hydrogen and battery
