Step 2: Finding a Supervisor
Graduate Research School
Before applying for a higher research degree you will need to match your area of interest to one of our Faculties or Schools.
Please note: Applicants to the Australian School of Business (ASB) MUST contact the School Research Officer by email (graduateresearch.business@unsw.edu.au) or phone (+61 2) 9385 6183 prior to submitting an online application or searching for a supervisor.
Choosing a supervisor is an important decision. The ideal supervisor is knowledgeable of the topic on which you plan to undertake your research, has good research skills and experience and is someone you feel you can work with. It is important to meet and/or correspond with staff who you feel have expertise in your area of interest prior to submitting an application.
Proof of correspondence with a potential supervisor is required for your application.

- a statement of the research problem and its significance
- an outline of the method to be used to analyse the problem
- the names of any academics you have contacted in the School
- details of previous publications and/or research undertaken in your nominated area of interest
A Research Proposal is required for your application.
