Expect to come first in your cohort?

You may be eligible for a prestigious UNSW Research Excellence Award

These scholarships are available to students of outstanding research potential. Applications are invited from University Medallists in any discipline. Candidates finishing first in their cohort may also be eligible to apply.

Scholarship details

The scholarship comprises an annual stipend of between $29,000 and $35,000

The following UNSW Research Excellence Awards are available:

(i) APA stipend valued at $24,653pa, plus up to an additional $10,000pa

For selected top ranked candidates, with highest research potential and who hold a University Medal

OR

(ii) APA stipend valued at $24,653pa, plus up to an additional $5,000pa

For selected candidates, with strong research potential and who hold a University Medal or are first in cohort

Possible extra funding for UNSW Research Excellence Award holders also includes:

• Relocation allowances of up to $5,000 may be available for students coming to UNSW from outside the Sydney area

•  Top-up scholarships to supplement the Research Excellence Award may  be available to applicants in specific research areas

How to Apply

Applicants will normally be required to provide originals or certified proof of University Medal to the Graduate Research School by no later than 15 January (for Semester 1 scholarships) or 15 July (for Semester 2 scholarships).

Eligibility

Be a newly commencing research candidate. Candidates who have already commenced their studies are not eligible for a Research Excellence Award but may still be eligible for an APA or UPA.  Please click here for details.
