Associate Professor Vladimir Sytnyk

Associate Professor Vladimir Sytnyk is currently working as a Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences at UNSW. His research interests includes Mechanisms via which adhesion molecules of the immunoglobulin superfamily regulate the development and functioning of the brain cells – neurons.

Professor Sytnyk is currently analysing mechanisms of synapse loss and develop strategies that can be used to prevent it, as well as investigating changes in neural cell adhesion in other neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and motor neuron disease and use new transgenic mice to model abnormal function of neural cell adhesion molecules in these disorders and study its effects on the brain.
