Dr Tamara Mackean

Dr Tamara Mackean is a Waljen woman of the Goldfields region of Western Australia (WA).  She holds a conjoint appointment as a Senior Research Fellow at the George Institute for Global Health and the Southgate Institute for Health, Society and Equity at Flinders University of South Australia.

Her research interests span health equity, social and mental health, health systems and Indigenous health. Tamara is a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (FAFPHM), within the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), Chairperson for the RACP’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Committee and a Board Member for the Lowitja Institute.

Within The George Institute, her experience in Indigenous methodologies using a mixed methods public health approach has facilitated her leadership role as co-chair of the Research Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and on developing community engagements, collaborative relationships and capacity building for optimal research and translation processes.
