Professor Joe Dong is an Electrical Engineer who specialises in modelling, algorithms, numerical methods to deliver optimised, more efficient and stable energy systems. As Professor of Energy Systems at UNSW Sydney, Joe is also Director of the UNSW Digital Grid Futures Institute and Director of the ARC Hub for Integrated Energy Storage Solutions. His previous role include Ausgrid Chair and Director for Ausgrid Centre for Intelligent Electricity Networks providing R&D support for the Smart Grid, Smart City national demonstration project. His work has earnt him global recognition as an eminent energy systems expert and was shortlisted for the prestigious Global Energy Prize in 2020. Joe was invited by the NSW Chief Scientist to serve on the Expert Panel for 2019/20 NSW Energy Market Summer Preparedness, and features on the world’s list of Highly Cited Researchers 2019. His pioneering work with EPRI (USW) and CIGRE (Europe) led to the concept of probabilistic approaches to power systems analysis and load modelling, to this day playing a major role in setting the global industry standard for probabilistic modelling. His research interests are power system planning, smart gird/microgrid, smart city, renewable grid integration and energy market.
