Learn to Program: R

Learn about the fundamental concepts in programming using R and apply them to analyse a sample research dataset. In this live coding workshop we will write programs that produce results, using the researcher-focused training modules from the highly regarded Software Carpentry Foundation (software-carpentry.org).

This course will run over 2 days: Thurs 8 July 1.30 - 4.30pm and Fri 9 July 9.30am - 12.30pm.

You will learn: 

  • Basic syntax and data types in R
  • How to load external data into R
  • Creating functions (FUNCTIONS)
  • Repeating actions and analysing multiple data sets (LOOPS)
  • Ways to visualise data


No prior experience is required to attend this course but it is strongly recommend that you view recordings of the following webinars in preparation for this workshop: Start Coding without Hesitation: Programming Languages Showdown and Thinking like a computer: The Fundamentals of Programming webinars. Recordings of all previously delivered webinars can be found here.
