ResTech Seminar: Modelling the impact of PrEP on gonorrhoea incidence

Thu, 25/02/2021 - 14:00 to 15:00

In this seminar Dr Michael Walker (Mathematical Modeller at the Kirby Institute) highlights the development of an agent-based, anatomic site-specific model to simulate the transmission of gonorrhoea which was improved with assistance from Research Technology Services. It looks at the widespread rollout of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention among gay and bisexual men (GBM) which is associated with increases in condomless anal intercourse, potentially leading to an increase in the transmission of other sexually transmitted infections which lead to current guidelines recommending that PrEP users be tested quarterly for STIs.

This talk will be followed by a Q&A session.
