Matlab is an amazing tool when it comes to many areas of engineering and many groups have developed and rely on tools written within Matlab. However, the rate of change in the area of machine learning (ML) has reached a point that it is beneficial to move away from Matlab and use Python instead due to the wide range of tools available and the opportunity to scale our research. We will be presenting the approach that we took to making this migration of a next generation tool for structural analysis, safety assessment and cost-effective design of large-scale engineering structures.
