Research Contribution: Vincent Murray obtained his PhD from the National Institute for Medical Research in London. After post-doctoral fellowships at Princeton University and the Cancer Institute, Melbourne, Australia, in 1990 he was appointed as an academic at the University of NSW, Sydney, Australia.

His lab has concentrated on several areas including:- Next-generation DNA sequencing techniques; the DNA sequence specificity of drugs used as cancer chemotherapeutic agents; the development of more efficient anti-tumour agents based on cisplatin and bleomycin; and the interaction of UV light and ionising radiation with DNA.

His lab has made significant research contributions as shown by publication of over 100 papers in high profile international refereed journals. His H-index is 27.

1) The use of Next-generation DNA sequencing techniques to examine the cellular effects of anti-cancer drugs.

2) The DNA sequence specificity of drugs used as cancer chemotherapeutic agents;

3) The development of more efficient anti-tumour agents based on cisplatin and bleomycin;

4) The interaction of UV light and ionising radiation with DNA;

5) The influence of chromatin structure on the control of gene expression;
