Elena Sitnikova, PhD, BE (Hons), CSSLPSFHEA  is an award-winning academic and researcher at the School of Engineering and Information Technology at the  Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA). She is a global leader for cutting-edge research in Critical Infrastructure protection with a current focus on intrusion detection for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems cybersecurity, cyber-physical systems and industrial IoT (IIoT).  Given the increasing number of cyber-attacks globally, Elena’s research explores systems resilience and the use of artificial intelligence in the analytics of abnormal data that may affect critical systems. Some of her recent grants include Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group grant and prestigious Spitfire Memorial Defence Fellowship, which indicate her national recognition as a contributor to Australia’s ongoing defence.

Elena is among the first Australians to be certified in CSSLP - Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional, issued by (ISC)2 International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium.  She is a recognised expert in excellence in higher education, holding a UK-based Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and an Australian Office for Learning and Teaching (OLT) Team Citation award for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. Her extensive experience in curriculum design of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional education programs, delivery and evaluation is based on teaching diverse courses—large/small; mature-aged/school-leavers; domestic/international; military/civilian; face-to-face/online.

Elena is affiliated internationally as an Adjunct Associate Professor within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Alabama at Huntsville (UAH), USA.

Elena also has IT industry experience working as a senior software engineer with the Motorola Australia Global Software Group. Prior to migrating to Australia, she worked for the space project Buran; the results of her research were implemented at “Energia“(The Russian Space Research Centre in Moscow, Russia).
