Researcher

Dr Euan James McCaughey

My Expertise

Dr Euan McCaughey is an internationally recognised researcher in the fields of spinal cord injury and electrical stimulation. His research interests lie in the way that medical devices can be used to improve the lives of those living with an illness or disability. He has specific expertise in the use of electrical stimulation of the abdominal muscles to improve breathing after spinal cord injury and critical illness.

Dr McCaughey is currently seeking to generate evidence of whether electrical stimulation of the abdominal muscles can improve function in a number of patient groups, with a large focus on spinal cord injury and critical illness. Dr McCaughey also has expertise in the causes (epidemiology) of spinal cord injury and serves on the Editorial Board of Spinal Cord, the leading spinal cord injuries journal.

Dr Euan McCaughey is an internationally recognised researcher in the fields of spinal cord injury and electrical stimulation. His research interests lie in the way that medical devices can be used to improve the lives of those living with an illness or disability. He has specific expertise in the use of electrical stimulation of the abdominal muscles to improve breathing.

During his current NHMRC Fellowship, Dr McCaughey is seeking to generate research evidence and technology that assists the clinical translation of electrical stimulation of the abdominal muscles to improve function in a number of patient groups, with a large focus on spinal cord injury and critical illness. Dr McCaughey is currently leading a number of national and international clinical trials. He also has expertise in the epidemiology of spinal cord injury and serves on the Editorial Board of Spinal Cord, the leading spinal cord injuries journal.

Euan is looking for Honours, Masters and PhD students for his current studies. Contact him for more details.
