Dr Mariano Ramirez Jr is a senior lecturer in the Industrial Design program at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia. His doctoral dissertation at the Technological University of the Philippines concerned the delivery of EcoDesign education via online tools. Dr Mariano Ramirez Jr is a senior lecturer in the Industrial Design program at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia. His doctoral dissertation at the Technological University of the Philippines concerned the delivery of EcoDesign education via online tools. He obtained his Master of Industrial Design from UNSW, and studied Sustainable Technology and Product Development at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

Prior to joining UNSW in 2001, Dr Ramirez was Academic Chair for Industrial Design at the De La Salle University College of Saint Benilde and Professor at the MapĂșa Institute of Technology in the Philippines; and Senior Industrial Design Specialist at the Product Development and Design Centre of the Philippines. He has worked with a number of Philippine manufacturers on creative product, package and graphic development approaches, and is a regular contributor to international conferences and academic journals on design and sustainability.

He is currently convenor of the Oceania chapter of the Learning Network on Sustainability (LeNS), Philippine Liaison to the O2 International Sustainable Designers Network, and an advisor to the Australian National Ecodesign Curriculum Development Committee. His research projects include studying the integration of environmental sustainability aspects in design education and practice, optimization of product lifetimes, dematerialization of contemporary lifestyles via product sharing, and the influences of culture in industrial design processes.
