Hello!  I'm a Staff Specialist in General Practice at the Academic General Practice Unit in Fairfield Hospital, located in South Western Sydney. He is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney.

My masters research project on primary care risky drinking screening received awards from the NSW Institute of Psychiatry and RACGP.  I was awarded Conjoint Researcher of the Year at the SPHCM, UNSW Sydney in 2017.

I have research experience in health services evaluation, integrated care, medical education, and preventive care in general practice.  I am experienced with qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods.  I have been the supervisor  or co-supervisor of 11 learner researchers (including medical students and GP registrars).  I peer review for several scientific journals. I am a member of a human research ethics committee and have published on research ethics.
I am an investigator in the current research projects:
•    South Western Sydney HealthPathways evaluation
•    Barriers in the transition of care between EDs and GPs
•    Communication between doctors and Arabic speaking patients
•    Shared-decision making for contraceptive choices in Chinese women
•    Melanoma risk prediction in general practice
•    Evaluation of research training e-learning modules

My clinical interest is particularly in comorbid substance use disorder and mental health disorders. My research interests are in integrated care (especially the transition of care between hospitals and general practice), mental health care in general practice settings, and clinical interactions between patients and their GPs.  I have an ongoing interest in the how research evidence can influence pragmatic general practice and I write a regular column on evidence-based medicine in the periodical, Medical Observerhttp://vitualis.com/?cat=20
