I am an experienced postdoctoral researcher specialising in immunology and immunotherapeutic interventions for brain infection, autoimmunity, stroke and paediatric cancer. I have 10 years of research experience using mouse models and human tissues, including research at Northwestern University, Chicago. I am a skilled flow cytometrist and have significant experience in processing mouse samples and human tissues to analyse immune populations, phenotypes and functional activity in the blood, bone marrow, lymph nodes, spleen, brain, spinal cord, liver and tumours. I have significant experience in flow-based assays, tissue culture/in vitro models, multiplex immunohistochemistry, protein assays including multiplex ELISA and disease induction (virus infection, sterile peritonitis, passive/adoptive induction of autoimmune disease, induction of haematological cancers), treatment (injection of antibodies, naked and conjugated nanoparticles, loaded liposomes). I co-founded a novel immunotherapy (IMP) during my PhD, which is patented and in clinical development. I have 23 publications (7 first authorships, and >1850 citations to date). Highlights include Science Translational Medicine, Nature Comms, Blood, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation and Journal of Immunology. Recently, my review entitled “Immune Profiling of Pediatric Tumours” was published in Journal of Clinical Investigation. I have presented talks at 11 national and international conferences and have won 3 awards for these. I have also won several travel grants, including two from the Australasian Society of Immunology, to attend conferences. I have supervised 2 research assistants, 2 honours students and several summer students in Australia and the US. I have mentored 11 PhD students and 3 honours students.

In my current position at the Children's Cancer Institute, I am working with senior bioinformatician Chelsea Mayoh to develop an immune profiling platform that can be integrated into ZERO Childhood Cancer, the first precision medicine clinical trial for children with cancer in Australia. I am also collaborating with researchers at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre on various projects that investigate the immune profiles of paediatric tumours, such as comparing the immune microenvironments of high grade and low grade gliomas.  I am also establishing a pre-clinical immunotherapy progrma for paediatric sarcomas to discover better ways to treat these tumours with immune checkpoint inhibitors and other immunomodulatory drugs.

Please contact me (rterry@ccia.org.au) if you are interested in doing an honours or PhD degree with me and are interested in testing novel immunotherapeutic approaches for paediatric sarcomas.
