Since returning to UNSW in 1997 as researcher and doctoral scholar, Rena has continued to study the nature and management of occupational fatigue as well as the contribution of human factors to occupational and road safety more generally.  Rena is a member of the OHS Regulatory Research Consortium and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia.
