Tahseen Kamal, PhD, FHEA is a Research Associate working in the School of Engineering and Information Technology working with A/Prof Andrew Lambert on free-space laser communication. Along with her primary project on free-space laser communication, Tahseen also works on elastomer optics manufacturing and optical polarization. The aim of her primary project is to successfully build optical communication channel for ground-to-space, ground-to-ground applications. Currently she is working on laser beam conditioning as a starting step for her project. 

She obtained PhD on "Compact microscopy systems using non-conventional optical techniques", from Research School of Engineering, Australian National University in October 2018. Her research focused on low-cost imaging prototype development where she specialized in moldless lens fabrication using liquid polymer, using 3D printed structures for engineering imaging prototypes and using Fourier Ptychography (FP) on moldless lens imaging. Previously, she was a Senior Lecturer and Lecturer spanning over a period of ~8 years in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her previous major was computer science and engineering with research experience in digital system synthesis and optimisation using evolutionary algorithms (genetic algorithm). For her involvement in higher education teaching she has been recognised as Fellow of Higher Education Academy of UK. She is a passionate and dedicated researcher and educator in engineering. 


My Qualifications

Work experience:

  1. Doctoral researcher at ANU from 2014 - 2018 where I worked on lens manufacturing, imaging prototype design and use of Fourier Ptychography on moldless lenses. 
  2. Senior Lecturer at East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2009 -2013 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. 
  3. Lecturer at East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2006 - 2009 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. 

Education:

  1. PhD (Engineering) in applied optics at ANU, 2014 - 2018. 
  2. MS in Computer Science and Engineering, East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2005 - 2006 with CGPA 4 out of 4 and gold medal. 
  3. BSc in Computer Science and Engineering, East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2000 - 2004 with CGPA 3.86 out of 4 as magna cum laude.

Workshops conducted:

  • Resume writing workshop conducted on 30 August 2019 for 24 students from different levels of studies at UNSW Canberra.

Events Organized:

  • ECAN Launch event on 8 May for all ECAs of UNSW Canberra. The event aimed to introduce the activities of ECAN to all ECAs of UNSW. 
  • ECAN event, "Navigate your university" for all ECAs on 1 August 2019. This event aimed to collate information about various facilities available at UNSW that are important for ECAs. Representatives from different units of UNSW and UNSW Canberra, such as, IT, Finance, HR, Research, Library were present to talk about the facilities. 
  • WiRN livestream event on "Role of gender for successful grants". 
  • WiRN event on International Collaboration and networking for women.
