Toni Ross teaches and researches in the areas of aesthetics, photography theory, critical theory, contemporary art and politics, and moving image art. In 2014 she was appointed Sydney reviewer for Artforum magazine. Her recent research is focussed on the work of Jacques Rancière on which she has published numerous essays since 2006. Toni Ross teaches and researches in the areas of aesthetics, photography theory, critical theory, contemporary art and politics, and moving image art. In 2012 she published a chapter on Steve McQueen's film Hunger in the volume Framing Film (Intellect Books), and in 2013 was included in the anthology Beyond the Aesthetic and the Anti-Aesthetic edited by James Elkins and Harper Montgomery (The Pennsylvannia State University Press). Her current research projects include a study of recent debates in photography theory and the art of Thomas Demand; a study of Gabriel Orozco's photography informed by Rancièrian theory; contemporary art that addresses the ideology and structural features of neoliberal capitalism.
