Deeply interested in how cities can be globally resilient yet intrinsically local; Alex is an urban designer and Registered Landscape Architect (AILA) who has endeavored to work extensively abroad. Such diverse professional experience has exposed him to a multitude of project types; from the mega-infrastructure currently dominating the Sydney urban landscape, to disaster recovery initiatives in New Orleans, allowing him to grapple with design at multiple scales and across cultures.

Alex is currently a sessional academic within the Faculty of the Built Environment, UNSW. He has served as course convenor within the BeOutThere! Interdisciplinary elective (B.Arch, B.IndDes, B.Planning, and B. Larch). A member of Green Roofs Australasia, Alex is a strong advocate for living architecture, green roofs, and urban agriculture.

Alexander’s design, writings, and research have been consistently acknowledged throughout his professional tenure; being the recipient of both the AILA NSW Graduate Future Leaders Award (2015) and the AILA NSW Student Future Leaders Award (2013). Most recently being acknowledged by Landscape Architecture Australia as ‘one of ten emerging voices’ in the profession. His frequent participation in design competitions has led to being shortlisted in the Brisbane Ideas Competition (2012) and a nominee for the Hassell Edward Robin Travelling Scholarship (2013).

Someone who thoroughly investigates the potential and rigor of design; Alex has been an educator within both the University of Technology’s Faculty of Architecture (UTS) and Louisiana State’s Robert Reich Faculty of Landscape Architecture (LSU).

When he is not living and breathing design, Alexander writes for Architecture Media Australia and goes trail running.

Exploring the intersection of the cultural, ecological and economic influences on our built environment. When Alex is not practicing, teaching or reading up on design you can find him running through the woods.

If Alex could combine them all he would.
