Mr Alex Nicholas Georgouras

Biography

Alexander is a landscape architect and city shaper who has been involved in a variety of award-winning projects exploring the intersection of resilience, sustainability, and ecology. Alexander is a landscape architect and city shaper who has been involved in a variety of award-winning projects exploring the intersection of resilience, sustainability, and ecology. His experience within the realms of landscape architecture, urban design, and transport planning, has allowed him to travel to Sydney (AUS), Wellington (NZ), Berlin (DE) and New Orleans (USA) to further his expertise. 

Alexander’s design rigor has been consistently acknowledged throughout his professional tenure; being the recipient of both the AILA NSW Graduate Future Leaders Award (2015) and the AILA NSW Student Future Leaders Award (2013)

Most recently being acknowledged by Landscape Architecture Australia as ‘one of ten emerging voices’ in the profession. His frequent participation in design competitions has led to being shortlisted in the Brisbane Ideas Competition (2012) published in the University of Pennsylvania Journal ‘LA+’ and a nominee for the Hassell Edward Robin Travelling Scholarship (2013).

Someone who thoroughly investigates the potential and rigor of engagement within the design; Alex has been a guest critic and educator within both the University of Technology’s Faculty of Architecture (UTS) and Louisiana State’s Robert Reich Faculty of Landscape Architecture (LSU). His experience working on cycleway projects, both as client and consultant, has provided him the ability to understand the process of active transport from all facets. 

Delivering courses in interdisciplinary design learning with the  Built Environment (UNSW); Alexander’s current role as course convenor allows him to undertake research-based pratice through education. He is currently instructing the BE Out There! elective; BEIL006. that takes architecture, industrial design, landscape architecture and planning students into a regional town, to develop design scenarios with the community. 

When he is not living and breathing design, Alexander writes for Architecture Media Australia and goes cycling 

Exploring the intersection of the cultural, ecological and economic influences on our built environment. When Alex is not practicing, teaching or reading up on design you can find him trail running.
