Mr Miguel Alberto Lorca

Biography

Miguel is a third-year Ph.D. student in Economics at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Before coming to UNSW, he received a Master and B.A. degree in Economics at the Universidad de Chile and worked at the Chilean Ministry of Finance for 7 years. Miguel is a third-year Ph.D. student in Economics at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Before coming to UNSW, he received a Master and B.A. degree in Economics at the Universidad de Chile and worked at the Chilean Ministry of Finance for 7 years. Miguel researches in the fields of Microeconomics, Labor Market, Pension System, and Productivity. Miguel has published in the Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Journal of Risk and Insurance (R&R), Journal of Applied Economics, Applied Economic Analysis, Economics of Disasters, and Climate Change, among others. Miguel's research applies a combination of economic theory, optimization modeling, and estimation methods, with a focus on social problems and policy implications. 

Miguel has significant teaching experience at both UNSW Business School and Universidad de Chile, where he has received multiple teaching citations, and recently has become part of the Teaching Fellow program at UNSW Business School. 

Miguel has been recognized with a bunch of grants and awards: Becas Chile - Fellowship for doctoral students CONICYT (Scientific Chilean Council), ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR) Supplementary Scholarship, University International Postgraduate Award (UIPA), and as the best presentation at the UNSW Business School Research Fair 2020.
