Biography

Sayidul Morsalin is with the Energy Systems research group at the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia. Sayidul Morsalin is with the Energy Systems research group at the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia. He is now waiting for his PhD Degree (Thesis submitted: Feb, 2020) under the supervision of A/Prof.Toan Phung with the thesis entitling as Diagnostic Measurement and Modelling of Electrical Insulation Based on Very Low Frequency High Voltage Excitation. He received Master of Research (MRes) degree with the Higher Distinction from Macquarie University, Australia in 2016 and the B.Sc. degree with Honours from the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh in 2013.

Mr. Morsalin is the recipient of prestigious UNSW TFS Scholarship for his doctoral study. He also received the International Research Training Program (iRTP) Scholarship for his MRes study from Macquarie University. He was awarded with Honours and secured second top position during bachelor for excellent academic and research performance.

Research Interests

High voltage engineering, condition monitoring and diagnostics of power equipment, grid integration of renewables and energy management of smart grid are inevitable in energy systems and have significant contributions to the evolution of our existing energy delivery systems. To this aim, my research interests fall into as:

  • High voltage systems- generation (AC, DC, Impulse, VLF), measurement and testing

  • Condition monitoring and asset management- Insulation testing and diagnosis of high voltage equipment such as power cables, transformer, CT/PT, bushing machine insulation etc. 

  • Analysis and modelling- Diagnostic testing (e.g. partial discharge, dielectric response etc.) including simulation, modelling, and analysis, discharge characteristics, breakdown mechanism, dielectric behaviours, thermal and mechanical properties

  • Energy integration and management- Grid integration of renewable sources (e.g. PVs, wind, electric vehicles-EVs) to the smart grid. and performed management using wireless communication networks

  • Smart grid aspects- Peer-to-peer energy transaction, internet of energy, peak demand management and energy prediction
