Molecular studies on colorectal cancer and drug therapy evaluation

Bowel cancer is the second commonest cancer in Australia, and after lung cancer the leading cause of cancer deaths.

At the same time, bowel cancer is entirely curable by surgery if it is identified at an early stage.

Over the last 15 years, Prof Ward and her colleagues have examined the genetic and cellular changes that lead to bowel cancer. They have done this to find ways of detecting the disease at an early stage, or preventing it entirely.
