UNSW Academic Career Development Framework

UNSW Australia aims to provide career relevant and effective researcher development, from HDR candidate to Research Leader, by rethinking its earlier "program" approach. Since 2013, the Researcher Development Unit (RDU) has progressively introduced an integrated Academic Career Development Framework (ACDF). The UNSW ACDF offers contextualised, curated modules and events that individuals "pick and choose" based on their current "need" or career stage.

Why?

Academic career progression typically requires demonstrated outcomes in the areas of scholarly research, teaching and service to the University, profession, discipline and/or community. In turn, effective learning, training and development that support performance are influenced by participants' characteristics, educational design and the work environment. These two separate, yet aligned statements, form the basis of the UNSW ACDF.
