Epigenetic gene regulation is important for a wide variety of vital biological processes. Epigenetic modifications allow cells with precisely the same genotypes to display a multitude of phenotypes; epigenetic gene regulation is therefore fundamental to the existence of all multicellular organisms. There is an increasing awareness of the role that epigenetics plays in human health and disease. The Suter laboratory studies the role of epigenetics in phenotypic variation and in disease, and investigates the impact of early environmental perturbations (such as maternal diet) on epigenetic states and their inheritance. We have made some seminal discoveries that have been published in top tier journals, and continue to pursue cutting-edge, groundbreaking research.

The Suter laboratory is located off-campus at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Darlinghurst where we have access to world-class facilities, including our own next-generation sequencer and state of the art molecular biology equipment. We work in an intellectually stimulating environment, with educational programs and regular seminars by eminent Australian and international scientists. We are always on the lookout for interested and motivated students to join our young and vibrant team.
