Honorary Assoc. Prof. Stuart Pearson is an active contributor to the discipline of Geography and contributes to the diverse fields of environmental management research at the University of New South Wales.  He has a range of research and communication management experiences in leading agencies and has demonstrated expertise at preparing knowledge for adoption through good design. He is committed to having an impact on natural resources through enabling management to bring appropriate science to work.  The Honorary stats means he is unpaid (and will not be taking new teaching or research supervision roles) but is generously supported by UNSW.

Stuart worked with the Communications Manager of Land & Water Australia in a team that implemented leading concepts such as Knowledge and Adoption to improve both the use of existing research and the procurement of new research. He managed the diversity of projects and people in the Innovation research program of Land & Water Australia and was influential in using triple bottom line narratives and return on investment to 'learn to do better' in the field of rural resesearch and development.

Stuart is currently doing research in dendrochronology and previously using stick-nest rat middens. He has assisted research higher degree students and colleagues in business, government and education.

He was formerly a deputy director and program lead in the Sino Australian Research Centre for Coastal Management (SARCCM) and former program leader in the World Harbour Project of SIMS.  He works with visiting fellows and was a research leader in SARCCM Research Program 2: Coastal and Marine Natural Resource Management, People, Policy, Practice.

In summary, Stuart has worked in Geography where he; frames action to get great research outputs that match needs, delivers an improved supply of communication outputs to the right audience, manages synthesis with inclusive approaches and credible publications; and provides the follow-through people expect - right to the point of impact.
