Understanding the spread of influenza A H5N1

Avian influenza and pandemic risk is a major focus of our research. We have developed enhanced epidemiologic datasets of H5N1 and H7N9 genomic data, with meta-data enhanced by an AI algorithm. We currently are part of a NSF/CSIRO grant that will focus on pandemic risk prediction around influenza A H5N1. We are doing a range of other work including geospatial analysis of the spread of H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b globally, and in dairy farms in the US.  We also monitor avian influenza on EPIWATCH®️, which detects signals sooner than official databases because of time lag in deposition of data by countries. Our work involves epidemiology, phylogenetics, GIS analysis and rapid epidemic intelligence.
