Biography

Dr. Mohammad Taleai is adjunct professor at Geospatial Research Innovation and Development (GRID), School of Built Environment (BE), after two years contributing with GRID research group with the position of Visiting Professorial Fellow, since Nov. 2021. Dr. Mohammad Taleai is adjunct professor at Geospatial Research Innovation and Development (GRID), School of Built Environment (BE), after two years contributing with GRID research group with the position of Visiting Professorial Fellow, since Nov. 2021. He is also a professor in Geoinformatics at the Faculty of Geomatics, K.N.Toosi University (KNTU) of technology.

He has contributed to the research and academic activities, and was one of the founders of the Iranian center of excellence in Geospatial Information Technology, Geospatial Information Technology (GIT) research group, and director of the Spatial Decision Making & Smart Cities Lab. He was the founder and CEO of a private company in the field of GIS and Intelligent systems.

Mohammad teaches and supervises students at undergrad and postgraduate levels. He has supervised PhD and MSc Students, published over 180 refereed scientific papers and two books on topics related to GIS and Geo-Visualization. His current research interests are Deep Learning & Artificial Intelligence for Geospatial Applications specifically in the subject of Urban planning and Urban resilience, Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI), Location-Based Social Networks (LBSNs), 3D city modeling, and its application for Smart Cities, Digital Twins and Urban Policy-Making.

He has outstanding experience in directing and cooperating in industrial research projects in the field of GIS. During the past decade, he has engaged with the industry and profession and led one of the strong research teams in the field of GIS. Besides the academic and administrative duties, he has applied for national grants and international fellowships which on several occasions he has successfully received them which let him extend his experience and capability to do industrial research projects and to expand his international network. He has led more than 10 research/industry projects funded by national and regional organizations.

He has built professional network with University of Twente, University of Hanover, University of Berlin, University of Wuhan, and Hiroshima University to apply for international grants and co-supervise post graduate students.
