Shaghik Atakaramians was a Scientia Senior Lecturer at the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications from 2018-2022. She was awarded ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) in 2014 on Terahertz metamaterial waveguides. She worked at the Institute of Photonics and Optical Science (IPOS) at the University of Sydney from 2011-2017 as a postdoctoral and research fellow. She also worked for The Centre for Ultrahigh bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS) 2012-2014.
Shaghik Atakaramians received her PhD in Electrical & Electronic Engineering with a Certificate of Merit from the Dean in 2011. Her PhD thesis has won the Gertrude Rohan Memorial Prize and 2011 University Doctoral Research Medal for outstanding research. She received her Bachelor's degree from Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) and the Master's degree from University of Tehran.

Shaghik Atakaramians carries out and leads interdisciplinary research in the field of Electrical Engineering and Physics. Her current interests are:
- Terahertz (THz) radiation and its application
- THz waveguides/fibres
- THz metawaveguides in particular topologically protected waveguides
- THz planar waveguide based devices for wireless communications (hybrid and reflection free)
- Electromagnetics
- Metamaterial, metasurfaces and metadevices
