Dr Andre Bongers is a Senior Research Fellow and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scientist at UNSW, managing the high-field MRI research facility at UNSW's Biological Resources Imaging Laboratory (BRIL). He received his PhD in MRI physics in 2004 at the University of Heidelberg for method developments in oxygen sensitive MRI at the German Cancer Research Centre/Heidelberg. During his career he conducted MRI research in several academic and industrial research institutions across Germany. His core research interests are centered around the development of novel acquisition methods, pulse sequences and data evaluation methods for physiological MR imaging. Currently he leads research and method developments in the UNSW MRI facility to explore novel imaging biomarkers, including short scale diffusion weighted imaging in prostate and brain cancer, quantitative susceptibility imaging in demyelinating diseases.
