Research Interests:
I have broad research interests in the fields of healthcare financing and economics, health systems strengthening and health services management. My earlier works have focused on improving financial resource allocation within health systems that are decentralizing. In particular, I have looked at how mechanisms for financial resource allocation contribute to improving equity among various health jurisdictions and how health managers at district levels cope with erratic funding flows from the centre. My current research activities are concentrated on human resources for health development in low and middle income countries. I have been particularly interested in assessing the capacity for health and human resource management and leadership at the district level. Although I am more involved in countries in the Asia-Pacific region such as Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Fiji, I have interests and expertise in other regions particularly sub-Saharan Africa.
