Level 3: I develop mechanistic models of redox processes of relevance to both advanced oxidation processes and natural trace metal biogeochemistry in order to better understand their relevance in natural systems and to enhance their application to solve engineering problems.

Why did you get into engineering?

To develop the skills needed to apply rigorous, technically sound solutions to real world problems

What are your research goals?

To further our mechanistic understanding of redox processes of relevance to natural systems and treatment processes to enable better evaluation of natural system function and to allow for meaningful assessment of our impact upon such systems.

What do people not understand about what you do?

Many processes are applied in practice without a real understanding of how they work at a fundamental level; however, developing this level of understanding allows for much more powerful application and improvement of existing technology.

Advice for prospective environmental engineers

Whilst we have come a long way in our understanding of how we interact with natural systems, the knowledge that awaits our discovery is enormous.
