Dr Elisabeth Kramer is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences, a Scientia Fellow and an ARC DECRA Fellow (2023).

Elisabeth began her academic career researching corruption and anticorruptionism in Indonesian elections but her research interests have since broadened, sitting at the scholarly intersection between politics, policy and interest-based advocacy, with a focus on Indonesia. She has been awarded research grants from the Australian Research Council and the Department of Education and Training (Endeavour Program) to support her research. She currently holds two Australian Research Council grants focused on therapeutic opioid policy and use and the political dynamics of tobacco regulation in Indonesia.

Elisabeth's first monograph The Candidate's Dilemma: Anticorruptionism and Money Politics in Indonesian Elections (Cornell University Press, 2022) delves into the lived experiences of candidates to offer a nuanced study of how the political and personal intersect when it comes to money politics, anticorruptionism, and electoral campaigning in Indonesia.

Elisabeth has held Visiting Fellowships at Harvard University (Global Center for Tobacco Control), Chiang Mai University, and University of Indonesia.

Prior to commencing her academic career Elisabeth, worked in a variety of industries including the public service, international development, NGOs and ESL teaching. She was previously the Deputy Director at the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre (SSEAC) at the University of Sydney and remains an Honorary Associate at the School of Languages and Culture at the University of Sydney. Elisabeth is of Indonesian heritage and is proficient in Indonesian language.
