Biography

Fitri Widhiastuti is a Research Associate in Algal Organic Matter and Micropollutants (AOM) at the School of Chemical Engineering. Fitri Widhiastuti is a Research Associate in Algal Organic Matter and Micropollutants (AOM) at the School of Chemical Engineering. Her work focuses on water and wastewater treatment, including cyanotoxin analysis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), PFAS sensing, micro- and nanoplastics interactions, and emerging contaminant removal. Beyond research, she is a 2024 STEMM Champions Program member, advocating for women, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals in STEMM, and serves on the Australian Water Association’s Water Literacy and Education Specialist Network, promoting water knowledge within communities and schools.

  1. Treatment and removal of emerging contaminants in water and wastewater.
  2. Cyanotoxin detection and quantification in freshwater algae.
  3. Comparative assessment of reactive oxygen species in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs).
  4. Development of electrochemical sensors for PFAS detection in water.
  5. Investigation of micro-and nanoplastics interaction in aquatic environment.
