Biography

George Bowden has experience and expertise in several fields of physics relating to fluids and plasmas. His postgraduate research involved numerical modelling of waves in fusion plasmas based on ideal magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). Later postdoctoral research has involved computational fluid modelling of the upper atmosphere (particularly the coupled ionosphere-thermosphere system). This work has been motivated by applications in astrodynamics (particularly satellite drag) and space weather prediction (including natural and anthropogenic phenomena).

He is the space postgraduate program coordinator.

My Research Activities

Current topics of research interest include thermosphere mass density estimation for satellites, data assimilation using ionosphere-thermosphere models and interactions between the ionosphere and rockets.
