Research Interests:
Delirium is the most common problem bedevilling older people in hospital. Delirium causes increased mortality, dementia and nursing home placement. Yet little is understood about the basic pathophysiology of delirium. Using a multidisciplinary, bedside to lab bench approach, we hope to unlock the mystery of delirium.

My Awards
I have received numerous awards in Australia and the United States for my research, as well as the 2016 Wiley Australasian Journal on Ageing Book Award for my textbook of Geriatric Medicine.
My Research Activities
My main area of research is the pathophysiology of delirium where my group has identified a previously unrecognised mechanism of altered glucose metabolism which is being tested in a clinical trial.
I have also published extensively in Hospital in the Home and other forms of out-of-hospital care and Advance Care Planning.
