My Expertise
A central aim of my research is to translate molecular and biological discoveries into improved approaches for breast cancer detection, patient stratification, treatment response assessment and understanding of disease progression and resistance. I work closely with breast surgeons, medical oncologists, researchers and multidisciplinary clinical teams to facilitate the translation of laboratory findings into clinically relevant research.

My research focuses on breast cancer biology and translational cancer research, with expertise in cancer biomarkers, microbiome research, proteomics, extracellular vesicles and multi-omics. My work investigates molecular mechanisms underlying breast cancer development, treatment response and therapeutic resistance, integrating clinical samples with laboratory-based and molecular approaches to identify clinically relevant biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets.
A major focus of my research is the identification and validation of molecular and microbial signatures associated with breast cancer subtypes, treatment response, disease progression and patient outcomes. I investigate the interactions between the tumour, host and microbiome using integrated approaches including proteomics, microbiome profiling, extracellular vesicle analysis and other liquid-biopsy strategies.
My Research Supervision
Areas of supervision
PhD, Honours, ILP
Currently supervising
I currently co-supervise two PhD candidates and since 2018, have contributed to the supervision and completion of multiple higher degree research (HDR) students. My supervision focuses on developing students’ research independence and practical expertise across the full research process, from project design and experimental planning through laboratory investigation, data analysis and scientific communication.
I am available, by agreement, to supervise and co-supervise PhD students in breast cancer research, biomarker discovery, tumour biology, liquid biopsy, extracellular vesicles, proteomics and microbiome research. I have also supervised four Independent Learning Project (ILP) students and twelve Honours students, providing hands-on mentoring and authentic research experience within a translational breast cancer research environment.
