Dr Kristina Vojvoda is a Lecturer (Education Focused) within the School of Accounting, Auditing, and Taxation at UNSW. She joined UNSW in August 2022. Kristina completed her PhD in Accounting at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in 2021 and has a track record (of 7+ years) for delivering high-quality and engaging learning experiences for her students.
Kristina's PhD thesis examines the determinants and economic consequences of target and bidding firm referrals to the Australian Takeovers Panel, a federal government body responsible for resolving takeover disputes. The motivation of her research is to examine the observed contention that the Takeovers Panel is used by parties for unacceptable tactical delays during takeovers and to assess the effectiveness of the Takeovers Panel.
Kristina's academic journey began at UTS, where she completed her undergraduate studies, obtaining a Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Laws (majoring in Accounting). Demonstrating her commitment to academic excellence, she later accomplished a Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Accounting, graduating with First Class Honours. Notably, she was also admitted as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2017.
An accomplished researcher, Kristina has also published in highly regarded journals, such as Accounting and Finance, the Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, and the Accounting Research Journal.
Prior to joining UNSW, Kristina served as a Lecturer in Accounting at Western Sydney University. She also excelled in her role as the Head Tutor of a first-year undergraduate accounting course at UTS, receiving consistent recognition for her exceptional teaching expertise, mentorship of fellow accounting academics to enhance their teaching abilities, and contributions to student success.
Kristina's primary focus lies in empowering her students by providing them with inspirational and interactive learning experiences. Renowned for her innovative teaching methods, Kristina is a multi-award-winning educator who harnesses innovative educational technologies to connect with students and personalise their learning experiences through an active learning approach. Her dedication to student learning and mentoring fellow accounting academics has earned her numerous prestigious awards including the 2021 Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) Award for Innovation and Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

- 2024: UNSW Course Design Institute (CDI) Implementation Grant
- Course redesign development work for ACCT2511 Financial Accounting Fundamentals, $2,500
In 2024, Dr Kristina Vojvoda and Dr Andrew Dymock successfully applies for a CDI Implementation Grant to support the implementation of course redesign plans for ACCT2511 Financial Accounting Fundamentals. The funding was allocated to hiring a casual academic to assist in developing tutorial resources and designing innovative, collaborative industry challenges aimed at enhancing students' business acumen and their ability to apply accounting skills in industry contexts. The collaborative industry challenges, which are case study-based activities conducted weekly during tutorials, focus on JB Hi-Fi and its financial statements. Each challenge aligns with the lecture topic for the week and typically consists of four to five interconnected activities. These activities position students as analysts or consultants, progressively increasing in complexity to explore JB Hi-Fi's business operations in greater depth. The challenges require students to apply accounting skills while engaging in higher-order thinking, such as analysing, evaluating, and synthesising the provided financial and contextual information. Additionally, these activities foster the development of practical skills, including the use of Excel in an accounting context, teamwork, and effective communication.
- 2023: UNSW Business School Education Initiative Seed Funding Innovative Teaching Models
- Industry Case Study Videos for COMM1140 Financial Management, $9,000
In 2023, Dr Kristina Vojvoda, along with her colleagues Dr Conor Clune and Dr Victoria Clout, successfully secured a UNSW Business School Education Initiative Seed Funding Grant worth $9,000. The purpose of this grant is to facilitate the development and implementation of innovative teaching models, specifically focusing on COMM1140 Financial Management. The project aims to create a series of 10 industry engagement videos that will be integrated into the course as case study prompts. This initiative aligns with the UNSW School of Accounting, Auditing, and Taxation's Education Strategy, which emphasises the incorporation of business acumen into teaching accounting. This grant will play a crucial role in supporting the team's efforts to enhance the educational experience and provide students with valuable real-world insights through the use of these industry case study videos. The team will also be actively collaborating with the UNSW Accounting Society to ensure that student input is incorporated in decision making processes. Their valuable perspective will contribute to the overall quality and relevance of the videos produced to develop transformational learning experiences for students.

My Awards
- 2021 Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) Award for Innovation and Excellence in Teaching and Learning, which was awarded to Dr James Wakefield (team leader), Raechel Wight and Dr Kristina Vojvoda for their work spanning five years to increase student engagement within the first-year accounting subject (2,000 students yearly) at UTS and beyond, with the ultimate aim of enhancing student performance.

- 2021 UTS Business School Achievement Award (Teaching and Learning), in recognition of excellence in the delivery, development, management and administration of teaching and learning that has contributed to the public good. This award recognised Kristina's commitment to the UTS 2027 vision to utilise technology and processes to provide timely and meaningful personalised feedback to students on their performance. This award is a testament to her dedication and initiatives which have greatly contributed to the learning experience of many thousands of students studying at UTS, and the teaching expertise of academics. Kristina was the only academic within the UTS Business School’s Accounting Discipline Group to receive this award.
- 2020 UTS Vice-Chancellor’s Learning and Teaching Citation, for “unlocking student and casual academic potential through collaborative learning”. Specifically, Kristina was awarded this citation for continually enhancing students’ learning experiences in accounting and inspiring students and tutors to unlock their potential through developing tutorial resources, collaborative in-class learning experiences, and mentoring other casual academic tutors.
- 2019 Financial Accounting and Reporting Section (FARS) Excellence in Reviewing Award from the American Accounting Association. This award recognises reviewers that demonstrate excellence in reviewing papers as part of the paper selection process for the American Accounting Association Annual Meeting conference.

My Teaching
At UNSW, Kristina currently teaches three undergraduate courses in the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom). These courses include an integrated first-year course (COMM1140 Financial Management) as well as a second-year financial accounting course (ACCT2511 Financial Accounting Fundamentals) and third-year financial accounting course (ACCT3563 Issues in Financial Reporting and Analysis) in the BCom Accounting Major.
