Mohammed Owais have over 12 years of diverse experience in public health and social science both local and international. He works as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The Black Dog Institute, UNSW Australia, where the focus of his research is to develop interventions addressing social determinants of suicide. His research aims to improve the quality of life and health equity of disadvantaged communities through his work addressing social determinants of health and suicide. He has published numerous research papers and presented the outcome of his studies at national and international conferences. During 2021, he has been on secondment to New South Wales Health COVID-19 Emergency Center.

He is open to supervising PhD, Masters, internship and independent learning program (ILP) students.

My Research Activities

As a dedicated public health professional, my research activities focus on addressing critical health issues through innovative and interdisciplinary approaches. My work spans multiple areas, with a strong emphasis on health equity, infection prevention and control, and the social determinants of health. Areas of Focus:

1.  Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health:

  •  Investigating the underlying social and economic factors that impact health outcomes in  disadvantaged communities.
  •  Developing and evaluating interventions aimed at reducing health disparities and promoting equity in healthcare access and quality.

 

2.  Infection Prevention and Control (IPC):

  •  Leading research on IPC measures in healthcare settings, particularly in the context of emerging infectious diseases like COVID-19.
  •  Analyzing the effectiveness of various IPC strategies and providing evidence-based recommendations to improve healthcare practices.

 

3.  Mental Health and Suicide Prevention:

  •  Conducting mixed-methods research to understand the factors contributing to mental health issues and suicide in vulnerable populations.
  •  Designing and evaluating community-based interventions to enhance mental health and prevent suicide.
