Patsy Soon is a clinical academic breast surgeon and a postdoctoral breast cancer researcher. She obtained her FRACS in 2003 before completing 2 post-fellowship training years at St George Hospital in Sydney and the Edinburgh Breast Unit in Scotland. She then completed a PhD in molecular biology on the genetics of adrenocortical cancer. Her post-doctoral research focused on microRNA profiling of cancer-associated fibroblasts of triple negative breast cancers.
Currently, she runs a breast outpatient clinic and operates at Bankstown Hospital. She also teaches medical students and surgical registrars at Bankstown Hospital. She is involved in research at the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research. Her research interests include understanding patient choices around breast reconstruction after mastectomy for breast cancer in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) patients. She has developed breast reconstruction decision aids for Vietnamese and Arabic patients to improve information dissemination and equity of access for these groups of patients.
