Dr Simon Chen is an Ophthalmologist with expertise in retinal and cataract surgery. He practices at Vision Eye Institute, Sydney, and is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of New South Wales.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of London, then trained in Ophthalmology at the teaching hospitals of the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, UK and completed Vitreoretinal Surgery fellowships at the Oxford Eye Hospital and Lions Eye Institute, Australia.

Dr Chen has been a principal investigator for numerous international clinical trials of novel treatments for retinal disease. He has published in peer-reviewed medical journals on various aspects of retinal disease and cataract surgery. He is an expert in vitreoretinal surgery and complex cataract surgery. He was the first surgeon in the world to perform combined laser cataract surgery and vitreoretinal surgery.
