Tim Rhodes is SHARP Professor of Public Health Sociology. Tim Rhodes is SHARP Professor of Public Health Sociology. Drawing on critical social science methods, he leads a programme of work investigating the social relations and evidence-making of health and care practices, especially linked to hepatitis C, HIV, drug use and addictions. He is currently using qualitative research methods to study the science and intervention of hepatitis C and disease elimination, including in collaboration with global mathematical modellers and implementation scientists. He is also running qualitative research on the social dynamics of drug user health in Myanmar and Colombia. He also holds an appointment as Professor of Public Health Sociology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK).

My Research Activities

 

  • Theoretical development of “evidence-making intervention” approaches to health, drawing on ideas in science and technology and critical social science.
  • Sociological qualitative study of the evidence-making effects of mathematical models in disease elimination and viral outbreaks.
  • Sociological qualitative study of the dynamics of drug user health and livelihoods in the war to peacetime settings of Myanmar (Shan and Kachin States) and Colombia.
  • Sociological qualitative study of the dynamics of intervention implementation, including treatments for opiate addiction and for viral infections.
