I am an Education Focused Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences, teaching across Social Work, Social Science and Global Development. I also support students undertaking Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements in Social Work and Social Science.

Prior to academia, I worked in community development across the local government and non-government sectors in South Western Sydney. My professional experience spans community safety and crime prevention, homelessness, domestic and family violence prevention, alcohol and other drug (AoD) harm prevention, health promotion, and community impact initiatives. In these roles, I collaborated with a range of stakeholders to develop and deliver community based programs and contributed to the development of strategic plans aimed at addressing the needs of diverse communities.

A central part of my work has been supporting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities through centring community voices and co-design approaches. These experiences inform my current teaching and research practice, focusing on centring student voices to make WIL experiences more equitable. My current research focuses on understanding the experiences of students from CALD backgrounds undertaking WIL placements and internships. I am particularly interested in understanding the strengths, barriers and challenges experienced by CALD students, and identifying actions Universities and agencies can implement to better support CALD students.

My Qualifications

Master of Development Studies (with Academic Excellence), UNSW

Bachelor of Social Work (Hons), UNSW

My Research Activities

I am currently working on a research project focused on understanding the strengths, barriers and challenges experienced by students from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds during Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements. The study will explore CALD students’ experiences on placement and identify actions that Universities and Agencies can take to better support CALD students.
