Mohammad Majid Akhtar is currently pursuing a PhD from UNSW Sydney in Computer Science and Engineering, working in Cybersecurity with a focus on detecting Social Media Manipulations (SMMs). His research includes fake news detection, bot detection, and identifying malicious campaigns.

Mohammad Majid Akhtar is currently pursuing a PhD from UNSW Sydney in Computer Science and Engineering, working in Cybersecurity with a focus on detecting Social Media Manipulations (SMMs). His research includes fake news detection, bot detection, and identifying malicious campaigns.
Previously, he received his Master of Technology (M. Tech) Degree in Computer Engineering from Jamia Millia Islamia, a Central University in New Delhi, India, in the year 2020. His thesis was on the integration of the Internet of Things and Blockchain in a smart home setting. However, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, he became aware of the significant role that social media plays in information dissemination and manipulation of public opinions. This realization inspired him to pursue a Ph.D. to understand SMMs better. He chose Australia due to its cybersecurity focus and national interest in this field.
In addition to his Ph.D. work, he enjoys supervising undergraduate students' theses and adopting a servant leadership role model. He also serves as the tutor for a course at UNSW 'Principles of Security Engineering (ZZEN9203)'. He prioritize work ethics, trust, and respect in his professional interactions. He is passionate about soccer and actively participates in a domestic-level club tournament in his free time.
