Stephen Goddard is Design Domain Coordinator, Senior Lecturer, and a practicing designer. Stephen Goddard is Design Domain Coordinator, Senior Lecturer, and a practicing designer. His work has been primarily within the cultural sector around Australia as an independent exhibition, brand and publication designer, having begun his career in theatre design. Milestone projects have included art direction of the Sydney Festival brand and collateral (2002-05); exhibition lead and publication designer for Wood: art design architecture, Glass: art design architecture, Steel: art design architecture and Concrete: art design architecture, and New Exuberance: Contemporary Australian Textile Design for JamFactory, Adelaide; and book and brand designer for the The Pool, Australia’s exhibition at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2016. Other notable exhibition designs include Obsessed: Compelled to make, Hyperclay, Lola Greeno: Cultural Jewels, and the MAKE Award: Biennial Prize for Innovation in Australian Craft and Design all for the Australian Design Centre.
Goddard completed a Master of Design (Research) at UNSW Art & Design with a thesis titled Cold Sweat: Making it in an Anxious World, which was a reflective and autoethnographic study of his design practice leading to the definition of seam practice to describe a multidisciplinary approach within pliant design networks.
He has been a resident at the Cité Internationale des Arts on two occasions, firstly in the University of Tasmania’s Rosamund McCulloch Studio and later in the studio of Ville de Paris, Direction des Affaires Culturelles. In addition to his Masters degree, Goddard has as a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and a Graduate Diploma of Art, Craft and Design from the University of Tasmania, majoring in graphic design and photography.

My Research Activities
Current research is focussed on the development hybrid communication design objects across two- and three-dimensional media.
My Teaching
I led the development of the new graphic design specialisation within the Bachelor of Design, including a Graphics and Print/Making elective. I co-lead the third year Major Project studios, and have taught in the Bachelor of Design (Honours) program.
