Prof. Ang Liu is a Professor of Engineering Design in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC). Prof. Liu’s research focuses on design thinking and methodology, intelligent manufacturing, digital twins, artificial intelligence, and engineering education.

Prof. Ang Liu is a Professor of Engineering Design in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC). Prof. Liu’s research focuses on design thinking and methodology, intelligent manufacturing, digital twins, artificial intelligence, and engineering education.

Prof. Liu is a Fellow of ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers), an Associate Member of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), an Invitational Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), a Fellow of the PLuS Alliance, a Fellow of Engineers Australia (FIEAust), and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). He serves as Vice-Chair of the CIRP Scientific Technical Committee on Design (2025–2028) and has held leadership roles including Co-Chair of ICAD-2016, General Chair of ICAD-2019, Chair of the 2nd Digital Twin International Conference (2022), and Chair of the 33rd CIRP Design Conference (2023). 

His recognitions include the UNSW Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning (2021), being named among The Australian’s Top 250 Researchers (2021–2026), a Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in the Australian Awards for University Teaching (2022), Digital Twin Young Scientist Award (2024), and multiple best paper awards. Prof. Liu is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing and serves on the editorial boards of multiple journals.
