Biography

Julien Epps received the B.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, in 1997 and 2001, respectively. From 2002 to 2004, he was a Senior Research Engineer with Motorola Labs, where he was engaged in speech recognition. Julien Epps received the B.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, in 1997 and 2001, respectively. From 2002 to 2004, he was a Senior Research Engineer with Motorola Labs, where he was engaged in speech recognition. From 2004 to 2006, he was a Senior Researcher and Project Leader with National ICT Australia, Sydney. He then joined the UNSW School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications in 2007 as a Senior Lecturer, and is currently a Professor. He is also a Contributed Researcher with Data61, CSIRO, Australia. He has delivered invited tutorials to major international conferences, such as INTERSPEECH and IEEE SMC, and invited keynotes to workshops of ACII, ACM Multimedia and ACM ICMI. He is serving as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing and for Frontiers in ICT (Human-Media Interaction section and Psychology section), and has served as a Guest Editor for the Computer Speech and Language. He was a member of the Advisory Board of the ACM Int. Conf. on Multimodal Interaction from 2015-2017 and is currently an Executive Committee Member of the Association for the Advancement of Affective Computing. He was a General Chair for the Int. Conf. on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction in 2017, and a Program Chair in 2019.
